The Ultratones
Click on the photo below for more:
A super turn out for the Ultratones which was held in the Fly-In Bar & Restaurant on the above date. The band played 2000hrs till midnight and people were dancing all night long. The Ultratones used to be the Echotones but they had to change their name as they now have a new lead singer. The music is just as good and now includes 70's and 80's music. It was only £5 entry which included a ploughmans, now that's value! Everyone was in good spirits and also joined in the raffle which was in aid of St. Barnabas Childrens Hospice in Worthing and raised £96.80.

Friday 18th November
Children In Need 'Bring & Buy'
The final total collected at Shoreham (Brighton City) Airport by Admin, Fire Crew and the Restaurant is £763.64
This fantastic amount was raised by 'Pudsey buckets' being placed in the Restaurant, Fire Station and in Reception. 'John Ralph' a firecrew member, played music throughout and the 'Bring & Buy' was held in the Shoreham Airport conference room. We had a bidding section where you could place your bid for a certain item on one of the tables. Thanks to Sussex Flying Club who very generously donated 2 tickets for a 45 minute flight raised £100 alone. But thanks go to everyone who bought in items however big or small to be sold off whether it be a bottle of whiskey to a cuddly toy, it all helped.
Thank you all so much.

Le Touquet to Shoreham Fly-In
Arriving for the 2005 ‘Fly-In'.
Sylviane Regnault the organiser, seen here arriving at Shoreham in 2004
The French pilots, family and friends flew in from Le Touquet from 0900hrs on the Saturday. Once they had all arrived, they hired a coach from Sussex Coach Hire, based at Shoreham Airport and spent the day in Brighton.
Some pilots returned to Le Touquet Saturday afternoon, but the majority were coached on to Eastbourne where they stayed overnight. They started their return journey to Le Touquet on Sunday morning from 1000hrs.

Saturday 24th September
Aeromart
The now, usual, Shoreham Aeromart took place on Saturday again giving a temporary home for seething mass of buyers searching for that aero model or aircraft seat or propeller desperately needed to complete or restore a beloved project.
Two notable additions were present this time. Firstly, outside of the main tent was the nose and cockpit cone of an English Electric Canberra. This was open for inspection and was complete in its original form as a photo reconnaissance aircraft.
Secondly, inside was one small stand with an absolutely unique product. This was the stand of Crescent models (www.crescentmodels.co.uk) which earlier in the year displayed the first ever fully accurate scale model of the Princess Flying Boat. These are being produced as a truly limited edition of 100, and to date 30 have been delivered. All the company’s models are painstakingly researched and hand built.
This year Philip Jewell, the owner of Crescent, displayed another first: a fully accurate 144 scale model of the Bristol Brabazon - the forerunner of all modern passenger liners despite only two ever being built and only one of them ever flying. It is understood that no other company has made such a model. These will be available on a "production" basis and not "limited".

Wednesday 22nd September
Jeremy Spake speaks to the Shoreham Airport Society
Wednesday saw a most unusual speaker for the monthly Shoreham Airport Society meeting, Capt Terrence Henderson (Ex Concord pilot trainer) had persuaded his friend Jeremy Spake to give a talk on his experiences with Aeroflot, and the Society was treated to a hilarious evening which showed off Jeremy’s great talent for entertaining; mimicry and story telling. He is a delightful man and the whole audience felt at home with him and his tales of Aeroflot in Russia in the early days and so on. He literally arrived in from Siberia and drove himself to Shoreham, and was returning there the next day.
Very interestingly, Jeremy was "gob smacked" by Shoreham Airport Terminal Building as he is currently making a film dealing with old Art Deco Airports worldwide (called "Stalinesque" in Russia) and had not known of Shoreham before. It is now on his list for possible inclusion and he may well visit again in his role as film maker.

Saturday 17th September 2005
De Tomaso Drivers Club - Super Car Sprint
Shoreham Airport had a fantastic array of cars under the De Tomaso Drivers Club. The briefing to the drivers in the conference room beforehand was faultless and precise. In other words, unless you abide by the rules, you’re disqualified.
The entry list consisted of some twenty very different cars indeed. The likes of the De Tomaso Pantera GT5, the stunning Koenigsegg CCR, a beautiful Lamborghini Countach Anniversary, De Tomaso Pantera GTS, Viper GTS, Mercedes CLK DTM AMG, TVR Chimera to name but a few. They enjoyed the evening so much, they have already booked for next year.

Friday 16th September 2005
Model T-Ford
The Model T-Ford club came to visit Shoreham Airport in 30 of their beautiful cars ranging from 1903 to 1927. All perfectly gleaming and restored. The purpose of their visit was to have an Airport Guided Tour carried out by the Archive and Visitor Centre.
These tours last 1 hour 20 minutes and cost £3.50 per person. They had two separate tours as there were so many people, then finished off by having a buffet in the conference room. They were enjoying the history through the Archive dating back 93 years of Shoreham Airport while on lookers at the airport enjoyed their wonderful cars.

Sunday 11th September
Charity Walk for The Sussex Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Centre
The Charity Walk raised upwards of £5,000, which is brilliant. The walk started at Shoreham Airport and follows the River Adur to Beeding and back. Tim Loughton came to offer his support at the start, and ended up walking to Botolphs Bridge and back. Walkers tended to arrive in dribs and drabs, so it was difficult to arrange a group photo.
All the participants enjoyed the day, and a big ‘Thank You’ to Shoreham Airport for the venue. We will certainly be asking the Committee if we can make this an annual event. Because of the importance of this charity, John Haffenden kindly let them have the conference room free of charge. Tea and coffee was available on the walkers return to the Airport.

David Oakley celebrates his 80th Birthday
David, a well know figure at Shoreham Airport, having learnt to fly here in the early 1970's, has had various aircraft from Socata MS880B Rallye through to a Beagle Pup 150. Upon hanging up his flying helmet about 1 year ago, thought he would concentrate on assisting the Shoreham Airport Historical Association.
One afternoon his son appeared at the Visitor Centre and Archive and led him out to the Shoreham Airport apron. David noticed Denny Dobson's Blue and Yellow Extra 300 unlimited class aerobatic aircraft with a large 80th birthday banner attached. After the introduction to the award winning aerobatic pilot Denny Dobson, soon David was ensconced in the front seat, being waved off by his family and friends for a memorable flight.
With kind permission of John Haffenden, the Airport Manager and ATC, Denny soon started to demonstrate his incredible aerobatic performance. (Denny is cleared to display down to just 3 feet from the ground!). During the flight Denny and David experienced more 'G' force than a Formula 1 Grand Prix driver!
With a giant grin on his face, David climbed out of the aircraft more sprightly than most teenagers. At 80 yrs young David has now been inspired to carry on flying again.
Special thanks go to all involved organising and par-taking in the secret arrangements.

The Shoreham Air Show
Following a record Air Show this year, dates for next year's will be Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September 2006.
Please add these dates to your diary.
The RAFA Airshow 2005 proved to be a fabulous two days. We couldn’t have had better weather, just perfect for flying. It looks as though RAFA at least equalled, if not bettered 2002. We shall have to wait and see.
Click on any of the below images for further photographs from the show...

IN THE AIR - What a start too on the Saturday, with an immaculate ‘fly-past’ by the Red Arrows

IN THE AIR - The Typhoon gave us all a thrill, a truly mean machine

IN THE AIR - The pretty Honda Sukoi 26

IN THE AIR - The graceful gliding Fox

IN THE AIR - The Helicopter Madness Retirement Display
A very great sadness was that this was the last air display by Dennis Kenyon, the amazing helicopter pilot. He has now retired from’ display flying’ but The Dennis Kenyon Helicopter Flying Scholarship will be available through ‘The Aviation Bureau’ Consultancy.

Friday 29th July
Miles High
Shoreham Airport now has, every last Friday in the month, music in the Main Terminal Building. Playing in the Fly-In Bar & Restaurant, a group called ‘Miles High’ has taken over the slot of Richard Durrant.
They play a cross between rock and modern and are gathering great crowds. ‘Miles High’ start playing at 8.00 pm and finish at 11.00 pm and at the moment there is no entry charge.

Friday 15th July
Ferrari Sunset Parade
From the smiles on everybody's faces it was a pretty good evening at Shoreham Airport on Friday evening.
The weather was a perfect warm English evening - perfect conditions for taking a Ferrari fast down the main Shoreham Airport Runway. The Ferrari flag flying from the airport flagpole just had enough breeze to show off the prancing horse.
Twenty-two Ferraris took part with no mechanical problems or incidents. The sound of the various tipos blasting down the runway on the still summers evening was just magic and the sight of a red dot scorching along evoked much chatter from the public watching from the airport terminal building. The Ferraris all sounded very special and the sound carried clearly in the evening air across the airport.
I think everybody got at least three runs thanks to the marshals who did a fantastic job and I hear enjoyed it as much as the drivers and passengers. Huge thanks to them for a professional job well done.
Thanks must also go the Sue and the staff of Shoreham Airport who looked after us magnificently. We did manage to get a few of them down the runway as passengers towards the end of the evening.
I think this event will become a firm annual event for Sussex Ferrari.
Thank you to all of you for making it such a great evening.

Friday 1st July
Corvette Car Parade
Corvette had a fabulous Car Parade on the evening of the 1st July here at Shoreham Airport.
Although the weather was not that kind, there were
smiles all round as cars went up the runway with full throttle. The
attendance of 22 cars, the majority of them Corvette, but others were
Porsche and Chrysler to name a few.
There were marshals to help organise and an estimated 50 people turned up to enjoy the event. A buffet was put on in the evening in the Fly-In Bar and Restaurant for all to enjoy. Comments from the organiser: "we hope to be back next year, we had a great time".

Saturday 11th June
The Beagle Reunion
The Beagle Celebration was a huge success, with a fantastic crowd of 290 guests. The sun was shining, everybody was in good spirits, and a lot of the guests had not met colleagues and friends for years.
There were over 50 aircraft that had flown in for the event. There was 1 x Hawk Speed Six, 2 x Messengers, 8 x Bulldogs (including a Bulldog 200), 1 x B.206, 30 x Pups, 3 x Austers, 1 x Terrier, 1 x Huskys, 2 x Airedales and several other aircraft.
John Haffenden, the Airport Manager kindly contributed to this occasion by waiving landing fees and the Beagle celebration was held in a small hangar to the east of the Airport.
Click on the images above for more photos.
There was a large cake which was made especially for the occasion and was cut after speeches by Sir Charles Masefield, son of Sir Peter Masefield. Sir Peter unfortunately could not attend through poor health but wanted to be sure of sending his good wishes to everyone. Other speeches were from Tom Wenham and Diana Pollard.

Saturday 4th - Sunday 5th June

The Glastonwick Beer Festival
Once again the Beer Festival was even more popular than ever before. The organisers ran out of beer by 10.00pm on the Saturday and had to order more in for Sunday! There were over 50 different beers to choose from, this was held in the marquee on the viewing area of the Fly-In Bar & Restaurant. It was a pleasant surprise to receive an email from Dave Shields, an Accounts Manager who lives in Shipley, West Sussex which follows:-
I had the pleasure of attending the beer festival. I was exceedingly impressed with the facilities and especially the bar staff. More often than not, when attending functions such as this, the staff can be surly and invariably, quite rude. The complete opposite was applicable in the case of the beer festival. Rhona and her staff, especially Kevin, were always smiling, their manners were impeccable and they seemed to enjoy themselves as well. They most certainly did Shoreham Airport very proud with their demeanour. Both my brother and I found the whole experience to be extremely enjoyable and more so because it was a pleasure to go to the bar and be served very quickly, efficiently and with a huge smile.

Friday 8th - Sunday 10th April
Fly-The London Air Show
Now in it's second year we attended Fly-The London Air Show, Earls Court. There were many more small Airports exhibiting this year which was encouraging and even Aéroport Du Touquet was there promoting his routes, which included the Le Touquet - Shoreham (Brighton City) Airport.
This year Shoreham Airport had the Le Pou Du Ciel from The Archive & Visitor Centre on our stand which created a fantastic amount of interest (as you can
see from the photos). Saturday was by far the busiest day and aircraft
such as the Supermarine Spitfire, Royal Navy Lynx Helicopter, ATG Javelin and Rotor Way Exec Kit-Built Helicopter (with the registration G-ESUS),
which caused a lot of interest.
Eastern Atlantic Helicopters MD500E,
MD600N, ENTROM 280FX and ENSTROM 480 all attended, Fast Helicopters had their MD500E, Robinson R44 Clipper, Transair and Poolleys had very busy
stands. Sim City (simulator) was a huge area of the show given over to the
best in procedural trainers, aviation gaming and generic flight simulators. You could 'land' a British Airways Boeing 737, try out the latest Microsoft technology and visit the world of virtual aviation reality.

Saturday 19th March
Shoreham Aeromart
The Aeromart for visitors and enthusiasts have been coming to Shoreham (Brighton City) Airport for years and usually twice a year, March and September. A super sunny day, for once it was dry for this event. A good turnout at the Aeromart on Saturday with many more new stalls than usual.
It turned out to be a very successful day. We had transport laid on with Shoreham Airports and the Royal Air Force Associations minibus, taking people to and from Transair (the pilot shop), the Main Terminal Building and over to the Aeromart. We look forward to seeing them again in September.
Here is a selection of items from the stands...

Wednesday 5th January
Tsunami Earthquake Disaster
Shoreham Airport staff paid their respects for the Tsunami Earthquake Disaster by gathering on the circle outside the main terminal building.
The flags were at half-mast to honour the three minute silence today, 5th January 2005. Our thoughts are with the people from the countries that have been so sadly affected by this traumatic event.
The collection point for donations is at reception in the main terminal building.
