The above event, held to raise funds for the Dennis Kenyon (Jnr) Helicopter Flying Scholarship was held Sunday 29 July 2001.
The event was a great success and in excess of £3,500 has been made for this very worthy cause. The day commenced with a colourful and exuberant Samba Band from the Church of the Good Shepherd, Shoreham followed by the first helicopter display by Dennis Kenyon (Snr) More exciting displays went on throughout the day including the Coastguard, a Strikemaster, and a nail-biting helicopter slalom event. Many people enjoyed helicopter pleasure flights over Shoreham and local areas. The event was run entirely by volunteers from Shoreham Airport, the Royal Air Forces Association (Shoreham branch) and local people.
On the ground, there were static helicopters and a large selection of vintage and classic vehicles.
Dennis Kenyon (Jnr) was killed in a tragic helicopter accident last year, and his father, Dennis Kenyon (Snr) has set up the scholarship to teach young students to learn to fly. The first candidate for 2001 is about to be chosen.
Because of the great success of the day, it is hoped that it will become an annual event and be a continual source of income for the scholarship.
